10 Most Expensive Beers in the World
When I was a broke kid in college, I always drank Natural Ice. After graduating, I moved onto finer beers, but these brews are something else...
1) Sapporo's Space Barley
Price: $110 - six-pack / ABV: 5.5%
Sapporo's Space Barley is the world's first space beer. In 2006, Japanese and Russian scientists sent barley seeds to the International Space Station and planted them aboard the Zvezda Service Module. After 5 months in orbit, the barley was sent back to earth, where Japanese brewers fermented it into Sapporo's Space Barley.
2) Crown Ambassador Reserve
Price: $90 - 750ml / ABV: 10.2%
Crown pitches Ambassador as an alternative to wine. Thats because its aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and then packaged in a champagne bottle. Since 2008, Crown has only produced four iterations at 8,000 bottles a batch.
3) Tutankhamun Ale
Price: $75 - 500ml / ABV: 6%
Dr. Barry Kemp a Cambridge archaeologist found Queen Nefertiti's Royal Brewery in 1990. Buried beneath the Egyptian sand was 10 brewing chambers with traces of ancient beer residue. With an electron microscope, fellow scientist Dr. Delwen Samuel was able to quantify the 3,250 year old recipe.
4) Brewdog's Sink the Bismarck
Price: $80 - 375ml / ABV: 41%
Not only did Bismarck briefly steal the record for the world's strongest beer from Schorschbräu, a German brewery that held the record for strongest beer, but also redefined brewing beer. Freeze-distilled four times, it has four times as many hops as a conventional beer, and it's four times as bitter. Brewdog calls the beer a "quadruple IPA"
5) Samuel Adams' Utopias

Banned in 13 states, Samuel Adams' Utopias is America's most expensive beer. Released every two years, each batch is aged in brandy, sherry, bourbon, cognac, and scotch casks for up to 18 years.

Price: $275 - 330ml ABV: 57.5%
Arguably the strongest beer in the world, Schorschbrau only made 36 bottles, each with a price tag of 275 clams. Tasters have said the 115 proof beer is smoky and nutty, with hints of raisins.
7) Carlsberg's Jacobsen Vintage
Price: $400 - 375ml - ABV: 10.5%
In 2008, Carlsberg launched "the vintage trilogy" in order to chalenge the luxury wine market. This barley wine is matured in Swedish and French oak barrels for six months. From 2008 to 2010, only 600 bottles were made each year.
8) Brewdog's The End of History

At 110 proof and a hefty price tag of $765, End of History is the third strongest beer and the second most expensive beer in the world. Only 12 bottles exist, each is made out of taxidermied animals: weasels, squirrels, and hares.

PBR 1844 is made from German caramel malts, and is aged in American wiskey barrels. Only sold in China, the Chinese PBR cost 44 times more than what its sold for in the USA.
10) Bail Brewing's Antarctic Nail Ale

This pale ale was concocted by Nail Brewing in Perth, Australia. Only 30 bottles were made, and sold at auction between $800-$1815 per bottle. 100% of the profits go to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. (The Whole Wars People). Apparently, the Sea Shepherds flew to an Antarctic Iceberg, dug up ice, melted it in Tasmania and brewed it in Perth.
